Asphalt Shingles

The choices for shingles seem endless. There are different types of shingles, made with different materials, shapes, colors, etc. It can feel overwhelming when re-roofing your home looking at all the different options.

Readily available, Asphalt shingles are the most common roofing material in North America. Asphalt shingles are easy to install, offer amazing protection for your home, and are generally the most affordable option for most homeowners. With increased technology, many asphalt shingles now add extra impact and wind resistance and can help fight algae growth.

Types of Asphalt Shingles

Homeowners often don't understand the terminology or the difference between a 3-Tab roof and an architectural roof. While you may not know the difference, you can definitely see the difference on your home.

Strip Shingles AKA 3-Tab Shingles

Builder-grade shingles. These shingles are called "strip shingles," because they come in strips made from a single layer of asphalt. They have a flat appearance, and generally cost and weigh less than other asphalt shingles. Generally, 3-Tab roofs are warrantied for 15 or 20 years.

Dimensional Shingles AKA Architectural or Laminate shingles

Manufactured with multiple layers of asphalt to give a dimensional shape to the shingles. The layers are fused together, creating a thicker, richer dimensional look to the roof. Generally, Architectural roofs are warrantied for 20-30 years.

Luxury Shingles AKA Premium Shingles

As the name implies, luxury shingles are the highest quality laminated shingle. Theses shingles offer the highest protection for wind and hail damage, as well as the best coloration and durability. Luxury shingles come in a variety of shapes, some which mimic shake or tile and come in plenty of color options.

At Evoke Roofing, we will never put strip shingles back on your home, unless you just really, really want them or you are constrained by your budget. When covered by insurance, we replace all strip shingle roofs with dimensional (architectural) shingles, incurring no additional cost to the homeowner. It is an upgrade we feel is necessary to enhance the curb appeal to your home. Our standard shingle is the Atlas Pinnacle Pristine shingle. Each shingle is manufactured with Scotchgard to protect the shingle against coloration, fading and algae. Together, with the power of Scotchgard Protector and a 130 mph wind limited warranty that covers damage from winds up to 130 mph, your Pinnacle Pristine roof will stay beautiful and provide superior performance for many years to come. Pinnacle Pristine roofs come in a variety of colors, as well.

If you prefer luxury shingles, we have many designs and colors available for you to consider. Upgrading to luxury shingles can not only improve the curb appeal and resale value of your home, but can potentially save you money on your homeowner's insurance policy. Many insurance companies offer discounts to homeowners who have chosen to protect their home with luxury shingles.
